The bond between father and son is a special one. Man wants nothing more than to duplicate himself in such a way that his legacy lives on for future generations. In some very special cases, sons grow up to successfully follow their fathers in their chosen field. For the month of June, we are going to celebrate some very special father and son teams that have made an impact in the world of politics, sports and acting.

Famous Fathers and Sons

George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush (pictured at left) were the 41st and 43rd presidents of the United States, respectively. Both presidents got their start at Yale and dealt with acute economic and international conflicts during their time in office. George H.W. initiated operation Desert Storm in Kuwait. Later, George W. sent troops into Afghanistan and Iraq. There is no doubt that this father and son team made an indelible impression on the history of the United States.

Outside of politics, sports is another arena where father and son teams are frequently found. Archie Manning, an All American Quarterback and NFL MVP in 1978, is father to Peyton and Eli Manning (pictured bottom right). Peyton holds the NFL record for most MVP awards and was named Player of the Decade in 2009. He is now the quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Eli is the quarterback for the New York Giants and led them to a Super Bowl Victory in 2008.

In Hollywood, fame is often a family business. Michael Douglas followed in the footsteps of his father, Kirk (pictured bottom left). The Douglas family name has been synonymous with success in the industry since Kirk started acting in the 1940s. Both men went on to win the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Another famous family of father and sons is Lloyd Bridges and his sons Jeff and Beau. All three Bridges boys got their start acting together on television’s Sea Hunt in 1958.
