History
GQ Barber Lounge was started as Gentleman’s Quarters in 1996. At that time, we were one of the first upscale "male specific" salons in the country.
Our first location opened in Tamarac Square in 1996 and our second in downtown Denver (Lodo) in 1998. In July 2010, we closed the Tamarac location. The mall was slated to be torn down and frankly we were not ready to open a new salon. We felt we needed to focus our attention on our Lodo shop and really take our game up a notch.
It was a good decision. Our staff is happy and our employee turnover is among the lowest in the industry. And because our people are happy, so are our guests.
Parking can be a pain at times, especially during Rockies home games. But it's manageable and once inside, our guys relax and really have a good time. We're working on the parking issue.
We are often asked when we are going to open a second location. The truth is we don't know. We will consider opening another shop when we feel we are operating at the level where we should be. Too many businesses focus on expanding before they figure out how to take care of their customers. And to us, making certain that we are delivering the best service to our guests that we can is our top priority.
From the beginning we have focused on providing the best mens haircut in Denver. Then we build other grooming services such as massages, straight razor shaves, manicures, pedicures, facials and hair removal around that great haircut.
In 2011 we rebranded our Company as GQ Barber Lounge to signify our commitment to providing the best in men's grooming and to focus on our key missions:
- To define personal branding for men
- To be the best in men's fine grooming
- To cultivate deep, long term relationships with our guests
Our mission was to provide a unique environment for men that was decidedly male. Granted most men enjoy the company of women, but not necessarily when you're getting your nose waxed, you hair colored or some other service that may temporarily leaves you feeling a little exposed.
We have been copied time and time again. Our competitors put up some flat screens, serve you a beer and have pretty girls cut your hair. But you know and we know that it’s more than that.
